Sunshine Blogger Award

I want to thank Angela at Wakening Life for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. I was planning to share cheeky Halloween jokes this week but I couldn’t forgo this because I was so honoured to be nominated.

These awards are a fun and important opportunity to recognize and connect with more bloggers. I love finding new bloggers and spreading the news about blogs that inspire me. At the moment, I am super focussed on my novel project as Nanowrimo approaches, so I’ve kept my most of my answers pretty short. Go over to Angela’s post to read some really thoughtful answers to the questions she was given.

Sunshine Blogger Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to the original post!
  2. Answer the 11 questions they’ve asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 questions.
  4. HAVE FUN!

1. Have you always wanted to write? If not, how did you start?

Like many people, I had a phobia about writing. In the summer of 2015, I had a dream two nights in a row about the title and first line of a book. After the second dream, I thought I’d see where that first line led me, and I wrote a ‘book’ of almost 300 pages in less than six weeks. During that time, I got out a journal from when I was fourteen, and the first page I opened was an entry about how much I wanted to be a writer one day.

I got my wish when my career ended because my body could no longer keep up with the demands of busy, inquisitive six year olds. Three years later, I am finally able to call myself a writer without the air quotes.

2 What has been your greatest life accomplishment?

My marriage and my children.

3. What would you like to do if money was no object?

Improve housing and programs, especially mental health services, to get homeless people off the street.

4. Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? Why?

Lord of the Rings. I think I was a hobbit in a previous life. Also, I went to an open audition for the movie when we lived in Christchurch. I would have accepted but Cate Blanchett needed the work. 😉

5. There’s an idea that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in any field. What are you (closest to being) an expert in?

Too many smart ass answers come to mind, so I guess it would be – being a smart ass.

6. What is your favorite book?

I don’t really have a favourite but I first read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand in university, then several more times over the years. It illuminated so many things about society that were driving me nuts at the time. It’s been awhile, I might have to pick it up again. Who is John Galt?

7. What did you think you were going to be as a child? Is that close to what you are doing now?

I briefly thought I would be a fighter pilot, so no. I also thought I might be a teacher or a writer, so yes.

8. What has been the most useful lesson you’ve learned?

Love hard, spend wisely.

9. If you could time travel, would you rather travel to the future or the past?

I would go back to my adolescent self and give her a few slaps upside the head. And a hug. Sometimes I wonder how I survived, I was so misguided and self-destructive.

10. Would you choose to join a project, such as Mars One, that aimed to colonize another planet?

Not a chance. Claustrophobia. No way I’m stuffing myself in a tube and getting blasted to outer space.

11. What do you love most about yourself that most people wouldn’t know about? (does this make sense? I guess, what’s something about you, that no one else knows,  that you love?)

The conversations I have with myself when I’m alone. I crack myself up.

  2. Thank you for your nomination! It’s Slump week for me here and to be honest I don’t usually do the typical awards, but I will answer your questions here, and TY for answering yours. I love that your marriage and children are your greatest accomplishments, all the while being able to be a smart ass 😀 For My Answers
    1. Earliest memory….I honestly don’t know, somedays I can’t remember what I did the day before.. 😦
    2.Most frightening memory
unfortunately I have way to many of those, so I will tell you about my favorite halloween costume I saw this year ( its been going around fb..where its one person, but it looks like he is carrying a port o potty with someone in it) I laugh just thinking about it
    3. My hobby hands down would be horses…riding training etc
    4. luckiest thing I would say having my kids, but maybe the fact that I survived raising them?
    5. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS EARLY
    6. 2 dogs, one gsd and one schnauzer….and a hamster and a fish
    7. Who inspires me to be better… actually everyone I meet does either I want to be as thoughtful caring and strong as they are or I don’t want to be as cynical, whiny, etc..if that makes any sense
    8. best compliment- the compliment that most surprised me came from a member of my new son in laws family…his aunt sought me out to tell me that their 14 year old daughter was in awe of me. She said that I was the nicest, prettiest girl she had ever seen. (while I don’t buy that, the fact that she came out of her way to say something like that to me was the best)
    9. peoples obsessions- I can’t name just one… I really tend to do the opposite of what most people do
    10. something I have been meaning to do…. eat better, exercise more, quit smoking
    11. The best thing that happened to me last week, was that I got to see one of my grandsons kicking my pregnant daughter (that doesn’t sound right)…she is having twins and one was kicking
Thanks for asking! I am so glad you have started writing and blogging

    1. Thank you so much for answering Grace. I know it’s not for everyone – I’ll stop nominating you – haha! I can tell from your answers we would get along famously. I LOVE the compliment!! Coming from a 14 year old – that means something! So cool that you’re going to be a twin grandmother!!!

My week is slumping too, I hope it passes quickly for both of us! 💕

  4. This made me laugh so much!! I so needed this pick me up and am so sad it took me a whole week to read this beauty:'( Thank you so much for answering! Your support warms my heart. I can’t wait to read what you post tomorrow!
Can I say though how much I love your thoughtfulness and humor! My answer to 3 would have been much more selfish! I’m officially changing my answer to my million dollar question. And I love that your greatest accomplishment is your family.
As for the HP vs LOTR, I appreciate your answer. . .a species that enjoys second breakfast will always be a friend to me hahha. Also your smart ass, and smacking your adolescent self responses had me cracking up. This is me. . .and quite honestly I probably need a good smack as my 22-year-old self now. . .self-destruction is my middle name. Hmmm maybe there really is something about women whose names begin and end with an’ A’ (have you ever seen those posts that go around social media that say something about women with names like that are the craziest or something like that??) hahaha Also I am excited to look up Atlas Shrugged. I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its *title but in this case, I am. Plus your explanation of how it impacted you makes me want to look it up that much more. I’m always looking for new novels to add to my list of to-read books! Okay, I am gonna stop myself here before I go on too much haha. But t you so much again, Amanda! It is always a pleasure to read your work! A writer you are! No air quotes ever needed.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend ❤
